PLANNING GROUP TRUSTEES HOLD ILLEGAL SECRET MEETING

La Jolla, California - Local citizens watchdog group La Jollans for Clean Government, Inc. has discovered that an illegal, secret meeting was held by a majority of the Trustees of the La Jolla Community Planning Association, La Jolla’s official planning board (“LJCPA”), on September 21, 2006. The meeting was held behind closed doors at the La Jolla Recreation Center. Neither the City Attorney’s office, the public or press were notified that the meeting was to take place. In addition, certain LJCPA Trustees were purposely excluded from the meeting.

By holding this meeting, the Board of the LJCPA violated numerous laws and regulations, including:

This blatant disregard for the law comes only months after a lawsuit was filed against the LJCPA for corruption, including conflict of interest, manipulating board votes, denying membership to residents, destroying or altering public documents, and, ironically, holding secret closed-door meetings without notice to the public or press. A complaint will be filed against the violators with the City’s Ethics Commission as well as the Mayor’s Office of Ethics and Integrity and the City Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit.

This latest incident in a long history of legal and ethical misconduct by LJCPA management indicates that decisive action must be taken by City officials to end corruption at the LJCPA.
